Acute Sore Throat

What is an Acute Sore Throat?

An acute sore throat is a sudden onset of pain, irritation, or scratchiness in the throat, often caused by viral infections. It may make swallowing uncomfortable and can be accompanied by symptoms such as a cough, fever, or swollen glands. Most sore throats improve on their own without treatment.
